Kingman Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team
Five members of the Kingman Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team recently attended a 40 hour Tank Car Specialist class held in
Pueblo, Colorado. They are from left to right; Captain/Paramedic Tom Flanagan, Engineer/Paramedic Jason Burke, Battalion Chief Porter Williams, Engineer/Paramedic Mark Olivas, Captain Larry Hanson. All costs associated with
the class were funded by DHS/FEMA with cooperation from Arizona Division of Emergency Management.
The Tank Car Specialist course develops the specific
fundamentals and skills associated with emergency response to railroad tank car incidents involving hazardous materials (HazMat) and/or weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The training provides detailed technical information combined with extensive hands-on practice of the actions and appropriate
responses with simulated large-scale HazMat/WMD incidents. This specialist level course covers the highly technical skills and knowledge necessary for responding to hazardous materials in a rail transportation environment.
The skills required at this level are significantly beyond those of a hazardous material technician. DHS/FEMA funds this program through the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC).
Structure Fire
Kingman 11-9-2011 12:33 PM
The Kingman Fire Department was dispatched for report of a structure fire located at 1502 Broadway Street. Two Paramedic Engines and the on duty Battalion Chief responded with the
initial dispatch. A third engine was dispatched as responding units reported that smoke and flames could be seen in the area. Upon the first engine’s arrival they reported a well involved single story residence with a
partial roof collapse. Fire personnel were able to confine the fire to the structure of origin. The residence was occupied by an adult female who was not home at the time of the fire. Kingman Fire Department Fire
Investigators determined the fire was unintentional and started in a crawl space under the living room floor. The fire caused significant damage to the residence and dollar loss figures are approximately $20,000. The
property was insured. Unfortunately, four family pets (dogs) died in the fire.

NOTICE: Fireworks in the city limits
The State of Arizona recently passed a new law allowing for the sale and use of specific consumer fireworks. House Bill # 2246 takes effect December 1, 2010. This
bill allows Incorporated cities and towns to regulate the "use" of those consumer fireworks. Therefore the City of Kingman has passed an ordinance prohibiting the "use, ignition or discharge" of those
consumer fireworks with specific penalties to be levied against anyone violating this ordinance. The City of Kingman Ordinance also takes effect December 1, 2010. The City of Kingman ordinance does allow
for the "sale" of consumer fireworks, but prohibits their "use". Anyone choosing to sell or distribute "Consumer fireworks" shall abide by strict rules spelled out in the ordinance.

Power Outages and You
Power outages can and will occur unexpectedly. For most folks, a power outage is an inconvenience. For a person relying on electricity to power a
life support system, it can be an emergency. The Kingman area emergency planners identified the need for education and support from citizens who are reliant on home oxygen.
If you have life support systems which rely on electrical power, you should have an emergency plan to follow when there is a power outage. If you are
dependent on supplementary oxygen and you don't have such a plan, here are some suggestions.
